Q: What exactly is a macaron?

A: A macaron is a delicate confection composed of almond flour, egg whites, confectioners’ sugar, and granulated sugar (forming its two, dome-shaped shells), and various jams, ganaches, and creams (forming the filling that gingerly holds those shells together).

Q: Mademoiselle, I'm confused…there's a macaron AND a macaroon?

A: Yup, the cute confection we make at the Love Confection is completely different from those coconut clusters dipped in chocolate that your Aunt Cathy brings to dinner parties. It’s easy to confuse the two though because misspellings of the French macaron are very common. One way people distinguish “macaron” from “macaroon” is via pronunciation. Here’s how I understand it:

Macaron = mahck-eh-rohn

 Tips:

1. treat all syllables equally

2. to get the French “r” on “rohn”: open your mouth wide and say “K” several times. Feel where you're making the “K” in your throat? That’s where you should be saying the “R” from.

3. Drop the last syllable “n”

VERSUS

Macaroon = “ma-ca” (of macaroni”) + “roon” (like “soon”)

Of course, everyone’s pronunciations are different and no one pronunciation is better than the other; this is just how I've learned to distinguish "macaron" from "macaroon" via sound. No matter how you choose to pronounce it, your Love Confection macarons will taste absolutely delicious!

Q: What is the shelf life of macarons?

A: After you receive your macarons in the mail, your macarons will keep in the refrigerator for up to one week or in the freezer for up to 4 weeks. For best results, allow our macarons to reach room temperature before consuming (approx. 10-15 minutes when removed from refrigerator or 30 minutes when removed from freezer).

Q: Where do you ship to?

A: The Love Confection ships throughout the United States, excluding Alaska, Hawaii, USVI, P.O. Boxes, or Military Addresses (APO, AFO, and others). Sorry international friends!

Q: When and How will I receive my macarons each month?

A: Macarons will be shipped on the Monday of the 4th or 5th week of each month via FedEx (if a holiday falls on the Monday, then it will be shipped on the next business day). However, since Mademoiselle Macaron is still finishing up her doctoral degree, we hope you understand if a given month’s shipment date/week varies slightly. No signature required for receipt of your shipment; the FedEx delivery associate will leave your package at your stated address.

Q: Can I request flavors for a given month?

A: Mademoiselle Macaron carefully curates the flavors featured in each month’s shipment for all members. However, if you are interested in sampling certain flavors in particular, please inquire about special orders.

Q: Mmm mmm, I finished all of my macarons for the month. Now what should I do with all of its beautiful packaging?

A: Outer packaging materials? Reuse or recycle them! Our cardboard boxes are made of 100% post consumer recycled materials and our packing peanuts are biodegradable and made of 100% cornstarch (that means if you don’t have a use for them, you can dissolve them in water and they’ll leave no toxic waste)!

Macaron boxes? We made our boxes sturdy so that you could reuse them as well should you choose. Stray jewelry, batteries, and/or nic nacs? Welcome to your new home!

Q: Do you have a physical location that I can visit?

A: We unfortunately do not have a physical location at present. We do participate in fun markets and other events from time to time though, and will be sure to keep everyone posted about those events on our site!
